Mason Hall Renovation and Interior FF&E

Mason Hall at the Max M. Fisher College of Business, The Ohio State University, Columbus Ohio, is a renovation project and is one of the three original buildings designed by KMW in 1999. The existing resource Learning Center primarily housed the Business School Library and as the OSU campus consolidated all of the library services three-quarters of the building was made available to the business school to be re-imagined. KMW was asked to develop the new program of spaces and design the current renovation and interiors fixtures, furniture and equipment project includes selective interior renovation of the first, second, and partial areas of the third floors, as well as the interior and exterior renovation of the fourth/Penthouse floor Case-Study Classroom.

The first floor of the building became a Student Resource Center with breakout rooms, conference rooms a reading room and a café. The project also created a new exterior patio/terrace in the existing Business School Courtyard expanding the café seating spaces and providing outdoor meeting individual and group study spaces for the business school and campus community.

The second floor of the building included new offices for the Center for Technology Commercialization, the International Programs Office, the Center for Entrepreneurship, the Fisher Professional Services, and the Action Learning Center; including shared interactive flex-space for staff, students and visiting faculty. The second floor, double-height Rotunda space was transformed into a multipurpose space for group study, receptions, admissions presentations and symposia.

Portions of the third Floor were renovated as a suite housing a computer laboratory and breakout spaces serving Marketing Research. The fourth/ Penthouse floor Rotunda exterior terrace was enclosed. The captured interior space was used to convert the existing classroom into an expanded, 54 seat case-study classroom.

At the Mason Hall Renovation Grand Opening in September 2011, the Max Fisher College of Business stated that Kallmann McKinnell & Wood Architects in association with Bialosky + Partners created spaces for learning, team building, and collaboration, preserving the building’s original feel while creating a state-of-the-art experiential learning environment.
