Martin Dermady is an Associate Principal at Kallmann McKinnell & Wood Architects and has acted as a key designer since joining the firm in 1995. Born in Syracuse, NY, he studied architecture at Syracuse University, where he received a Bachelor of Architecture degree and won the James Britton Award for outstanding senior design thesis. The thesis involved a project in Rome and explored the issues of urban building typologies and design transformation.
He entered the Master of Architecture program at the Harvard Graduate School of Design and graduated in 1988. The basis of his architectural studies at Harvard involved the exploration of architecture and the landscape as a basis of sustainable design.
Martin is also the Sustainable Design Coordinator at KMW. His responsibilities in this regard include: design research of sustainable design strategies, methodologies and technologies; collaboration with KMW teams to apply research; oversees the LEED certification process on KMW projects and continuing education of KMW staff on sustainable design.
He is currently serving as a thesis advisor at the Boston Architectural College where he has also taught design studies. He has served as a jury critic at several architectural schools.
