In conjunction with Bowie Gridley Architects of Washington, D.C., KMW as Design Architect completed a 9-month Master Plan Study for the complete Renovation and Expansion of 40-year-old Lauinger Library at Georgetown University. The Master Plan envisions a full environmental, electrical and tel/data upgrade in addition to adding and re-organizing program areas.
Particular emphasis was placed on enhancing interior access to daylight and exterior views, improving visual and circulation connections between public levels, highlighting “destinations” within the expanded facility (for example, Special Collections, group study, the “Midnight Mug” cafe), and the creation of a culminating triple-height Reading Room overlooking the Potomac.
